08 Jan Acheson Law is Proud to Serve Those Who “Stand on Guard for Thee”…

Last fall Acheson Sweeney Foley Sahota LLP was instrumental in negotiating a $900M class action lawsuit against the Attorney General of Canada on behalf of Canadian military personnel and civilian employees.

Those who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces make tremendous sacrifices so that the rest of us may be safe and secure. It is an injustice when those sacrifices are repaid with discrimination, harassment, intimidation and sexual assault carried out by peers and superiors.

Attempted reforms inadequately addressed ongoing complaints of discrimination. This class action sought to right those wrongs.

Plaintiffs in five separate class actions across Canada agreed to combine their resources and work together, so current and former members of the military truly had “coast to coast” representation.

It was courageous for those individuals to come forward and we at Acheson Sweeney Foley Sahota LLP are proud to have represented them in this historic settlement. It is our hope that by sharing their traumatic and painful stories, other members of the military community who are in similar circumstances will feel encouraged to come forward.

If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual misconduct involving military personnel, we encourage you to contact us at www.achesonlaw.ca.
