14 Dec BE SAFE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

We hope that you all have a festive holiday season, enjoying time with family and friends.  If you are hosting a party or a holiday function that includes drinking, please remember that you have a responsibility to ensure that your guests don’t drink and drive, and that they get home safely.

Since some of your guests may not have made smart travel plans, keep the phone number for a taxi service handy.  If you believe one of your friends is too drunk to drive, ask them for their keys and call them a cab. Alternatively, stay with them until they are sober or offer them a spare bed for the night.  If you are unable to stop someone who shouldn’t be driving, you will need to call the police – it may be difficult to do when it’s a friend, but the potential for serious harm to your friend and others is a very real possibility if they get behind the wheel.

In addition to taxis, we’re lucky enough to have several designated driver services in Victoria. One driver will take your guest home in his or her own vehicle, while the second driver follows in the other car to collect the first driver.  Another option is the BCAA Safe-Ride-Home Service.  It allows members to have their car towed home if they are unable to drive.

If you’re headed out to a party, please remember to keep your speed down and don’t rush. The eggnog will still be there when you arrive! Drive for the road conditions and give yourself plenty of distance between cars to react to the traffic around you.

From all the lawyers and staff at Acheson Whitley Sweeney Foley, have a safe and joyous holiday season.
